Since 2017, we’ve been taking you to Europe’s best canoeing destination. For a week, you’ll paddle through Nordmarken, an unspoilt maze of hundreds of lakes and islands on the Norwegian border.
Your journey starts and ends at our basecamp, Outpost North. In between, expect glass-calm waters, quiet forests and a different place to sleep every night, on a tiny island or by a campfire beside the water. Sometimes, you and your travel buddy will carry your canoe overland for a short stretch to the next lake.
We’ve already mapped out the route, taking you past the best spots. All you need to do is paddle.

This summer, from mid-May, you can travel to Sweden every Sunday and Thursday by car or with the airport shuttle from Oslo Gardermoen.
From mid-June, a bus to Sweden leaves every Friday, arriving on Saturday. The following week, the bus leaves the basecamp again on Saturday evening for the journey home, arriving late on Sunday.
If you book your flights through The Canoe Trip, the shuttle between Oslo Gardermoen Airport and the basecamp is also included.

Choose from return flights on Thursday or Sunday to Oslo Gardermoen Airport from Brussels (BRU), Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Munich (MUC) and Frankfurt (FRA).
Most Canoe Trippers choose our bus journey from Belgium or the Netherlands. You leave on Friday, travel comfortably overnight and arrive at the basecamp in Sweden the next morning. The following week, we bring you safely back home on Saturday evening, arriving late on Sunday. It's not only the most eco-friendly and relaxed option, you'll be in holiday mode straight away!
Choose a return flight including the shuttle to the basecamp, or book your own flight. If you book your own, make sure it fits the shuttle's fixed departure times.
Travel with the airport shuttle directly to and from the basecamp. The shuttle runs on a fixed Sunday and Thursday schedule.

You can also choose to travel to Sweden in your own car. For this long drive, do factor in extra travel costs such as fuel, tolls and any ferries. On arrival, parking is available, you can leave your car for the whole week.

During the trip, you’ll spend 6 nights in the wild, camping wherever you choose or staying at a DANO shelter in nature.
Make things easy and add camping gear to your booking. That way, you won't need to bring anything yourself and can be sure you have the right equipment.
On the 7th and final night, you'll camp at basecamp or choose to upgrade to a fully equipped glamping tipi for 2 or 4 people, a comfortable 4-person Lumberjack Hut, or a cosy Fisherman Hut for 2 people.
We’ll provide all the canoeing equipment you need for the trip. Wondering what to bring yourself? We’ve put together a packing list with all the essentials for your adventure.
You can rent camping gear, so you don’t have to bring it yourself.
It’s important that you don’t bring too much luggage, as everything has to fit in the canoe. The less you pack, the easier both the canoeing and the overland transport will be. Ideally, your luggage should weigh no more than 20 kg per person. Bring a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can’t go in the canoe.
When booking, you can choose a Survival Food Pack. It’s available with meat or as a vegetarian option*. It gives you everything you need to prepare simple, nutritious meals during your canoe trip. The food pack includes 3 main meals per day, as well as snacks. You can find an example of the food pack here.
We’ll also provide you with a Trangia cooking set for preparing your meals. It includes:

In the Swedish summer, time seems to stand still. The sun sinks ever so slowly below the horizon, often colouring the sky and water deep orange and purple for hours. It's the moment when the wind drops and the lake turns into a perfect mirror.
Nothing makes your heart beat faster than the moment a moose suddenly steps out of the treeline or a beaver glides past. You're a guest in their ecosystem. There's no guarantee you'll see these animals, but that makes it all the better when you do.

The average age of our travelers is 30 years, with the majority being in their twenties (60%). Couples of all ages, groups of friends, and colleagues book this canoe holiday every year! In the last edition, the participants mainly came from the Netherlands & Belgium.
Generally, people sign up in groups of 2 or 4: a mix of friends and couples.
Yes, you can join The Canoe Trip with an odd-numbered group. When booking, you can choose whether you’d like an extra seat for a third person in the canoe or would prefer to use a one-person kayak. We only recommend choosing the extra seat if you’re travelling with five or more people, as the canoe may otherwise not have enough space for everyone’s luggage.
The Canoe Trip is a self-guided adventure. During your canoe holiday, you’re completely free to choose your own route. You don’t have to take anyone or anything into account, and you’ll navigate using the map we provide.
You’ll also receive a sample route with tips on where to spend each night. You don’t have to follow this route and are welcome to wild camp elsewhere.
There’s always a ranger at base camp who can answer your questions and help in case of an emergency.
Yes, you need to pay a 30% deposit of the total trip price to confirm your booking. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 20 days before departure, at check-in.
You can book tailor-made trips through Outpost North. You choose how long you want to canoe and when you want to leave. Outpost North offers the same 7-day and 3-day packages as The Canoe Trip. You can also put together a completely bespoke trip.
