Everyone looking for a good dose of adventure is welcome on The Canoe Trip.
The average age of our travelers is 30 years, with the majority being in their twenties (60%). Couples of all ages, groups of friends, and colleagues book this canoe holiday every year! In the last edition, the participants mainly came from the Netherlands & Belgium.
Generally, people sign up in groups of 2 or 4: a mix of friends and couples.
Yes, you can join The Canoe Trip with an odd-numbered group. When booking, you can choose whether you’d like an extra seat for a third person in the canoe or would prefer to use a one-person kayak. We only recommend choosing the extra seat if you’re travelling with five or more people, as the canoe may otherwise not have enough space for everyone’s luggage.
Yes, you can also join The Canoe Trip solo as part of a group trip. Since 2025, we’ve been organising this guided canoe adventure through WeAdventures.
For safety reasons, it isn’t possible to book The Canoe Trip entirely on your own. What’s more, our canoes are specially designed for two people, so you can’t paddle them solo.
Yes, your dog is welcome on The Canoe Trip. You don't need to let us know in advance. Please note that your dog can only join if you travel by private transport. Dogs aren't allowed on the bus or airport shuttle.
At the base camp and in nature, your dog must always be kept on a leash. We also strongly recommend bringing a life jacket for your dog, as we only offer life jackets for people.
Please note that dogs aren't allowed in rented camping equipment. If you're bringing your dog, you'll therefore need to bring your own camping gear.
No, The Canoe Trip does not offer a child discount.
The Canoe Trip is a self-guided adventure. During your canoe holiday, you’re completely free to choose your own route. You don’t have to take anyone or anything into account, and you’ll navigate using the map we provide.
You’ll also receive a sample route with tips on where to spend each night. You don’t have to follow this route and are welcome to wild camp elsewhere.
There’s always a ranger at base camp who can answer your questions and help in case of an emergency.
Fishing is allowed in the entire region with a fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license here. With this license, you are allowed to fish in all lakes. Without the license, fishing is not permitted. Additionally, you can purchase a fishing license for 300 SEK or 30 euros at our basecamp upon arrival. Fishing equipment can also be rented there.
Showers and toilets are only available on the arrival day and last night of The Canoe Trip at the basecamp.
During The Canoe Trip, nature is your bathroom. We will provide you with a small bottle of eco-friendly biodegradable soap. Make sure to bring your own as well, so we can keep the nature intact.
There is always a dry toilet available near the shelters for you to use.
During the trip, you'll drink water from the lakes. We recommend bringing water purification tablets or drops to kill any bacteria in the water.
You can safely park your car at the base camp. A parking pass costs € 70 per week. Arriving the night before is no problem, and we won't charge you anything extra.
Parking is limited, so please carpool whenever possible. That way, we can also do our bit for a cleaner planet. 🌿
If you booked a trip with an arrival date on Saturday, the bus departs on Friday at 11 a.m. from Brussels, at 2:30 p.m. from Utrecht, and at 9 p.m. from Hamburg. The return trip home from our basecamp departs on Saturday evening. The bus arrives on Sunday morning, late afternoon, or evening, depending on where you get off the bus.
The bus journey to our basecamps takes approximately 20-22 hours (from Brussels), including breaks. The exact travel time naturally depends on the pickup location, weather, and traffic along the way.
Unfortunately, we currently do not have charging stations at the base camp, so you won't be able to charge your electric car during your trip. You can easily find the nearest charging point using the Elton app or Chargefinder.
The briefing starts at 9 a.m. You’ll hit the water straight afterwards, so you can still enjoy a full day of paddling.
Make sure you arrive in time for the briefing. You’re welcome at the base camp from 8 a.m., and there’ll be a cup of coffee waiting for you. If you prefer, you can also stay at the base camp the night before.
Coming by airport shuttle? We’ll organise an extra briefing in the afternoon when you arrive at the base camp.
A few weeks before departure, you will receive a detailed packing list, carefully compiled by our experienced team. The packing list includes everything you need for your adventure, from clothing to equipment and useful extras.

For the rental equipment (canoe, cooking kit, etc.), we require a deposit of €200 per canoe and €100 per kayak. If you return everything in the same condition as you received it, the deposit will be refunded within 15 business days after the trip ends.
Depending on availability, you can add or remove most options until the check-in date. Generally, we follow a first-come, first-served principle, so early decision-makers are at an advantage.
Right after your registration, you must pay a deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you still have until the check-in date to modify your options and pay the remaining balance.
There are various payment options, including Bancontact, Mastercard, iDeal. If you have a Travelbase voucher, you can use it as well.
If your payment fails, it is likely due to an incorrect reference number or exceeding your account limit.
In almost the entire area, you have regular phone coverage. So you can always reach the rangers in case of an emergency or simply call home from time to time. Just make sure to bring a good power bank, as you won't have access to electricity to charge your phone during your trip.
In case of a medical problem or other emergency, you can always contact the on-site ranger. The app contains an SOS button that notifies the ranger. In life-threatening situations, we recommend calling 112.
The ranger will either come to you to provide assistance or send a medical service.
When you make a booking, you can choose to add travel insurance to your reservation. This way, you don't have to worry if something happens during the trip. You can find the exact terms of the travel insurance here.
On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our rangers or guides. They will greet you and give you a brief introduction before your trip begins.
You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants and on site teamdeparting on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our team.
